Name: Simplicity And Freedom: A Bold Approach To Plein Air Painting
Date: August 25, 2014 - August 29, 2014
Event Description:

This plein air workshop in oils is open to artists of all levels.

A big challenge for plein air painters is to successfully narrow down infinite amounts of detail and express the essence of a scene.  Learn how to simplify and design an impactful painting through the underpainting techniques and exercises practiced by Shelby.

During the workshop, Shelby will share her methods and approaches that have helped her successfully translate a view into boldly expressed and emotive paintings.  Students will learn and apply strategies for simplification, value accuracy, compositional uniqueness and much more.

Each day will be filled with painting, individual attention, a plein air demo, and opportunities for all of the workshop attendees to interact.

Students will have opportunities to paint:

*The clear water, and rocky shores of Lake Superior.
*The quaint architecture of the lake-side villages.
*The unique water-craft and landscape of the Apostle Islands.

In addition, a possible day trip could include a ferry ride over to Bayfield, where you can paint the charming Victorian architecture and fishing fleet in the Bayfield harbor.

Shelby is nationally recognized for her unique, bold color, and expressive style of painting.  She has taught, traveled/painted and competed as a Plein Air painter from the California coast, the desert southwest, the Eastern seaboard as well as in her native state of Wisconsin.
