Date:
July 4, 2025 - July 6, 2025
Event Description:
Ready to step back into the past to explore Wisconsin’s unique fur trading roots? During Fur Trade Weekend on Madeline Island, you’ll travel across time—over 150 years of it, to be exact—as you walk through a dedicated recreation of an Old World 1800s fur trade encampment. Not only will you get an up-close look at the fur trading process, but you’ll also interact with historians and re-enactors as they demonstrate the many other fascinating aspects of a trading post: firearms development, birch canoe building, blacksmithing, surveying, wilderness medicine and more. Cost: This event is included with general admission. Society members receive admission for free Know Before You Go: Outdoor activities could be impacted or canceled due to weather. The museum store is open during operating hours. Guests may exit and return throughout the day. No food/beverage allowed. Restrooms and water fountains are available on site. The site will remain open rain or shine, except on a gale day. Unredeemed tickets can be used on another date in the case of a gale day. No pets are allowed. Service animals are permitted. Because of the historic nature of the buildings, not all areas are ADA accessible. Guests with additional mobility needs are encouraged to contact the site directly at 715-747-2415 or madelineisland@wisconsinhistory.org.
